Jason is a Software Associate at Wayfair. A recent grad from Harvard (Class of 2011), Jason has been working on a number of projects for the Wayfair Engineering team, most of which have focused on software patches for FreeBSD ports such as PHP-MSSQL, Pure-FTPd, and NGINX. He loves working at Wayfair with all of his colleagues, and looks forward to his continued endeavors in the software engineering industry.

Moving Constants out of APC and into CDB

As has been discussed at great length on this blog recently, performance is a key part of the work we do here at Wayfair.  Recently, we’ve been putting a lot of extra effort into our technology developments to make our pages load faster and more reliably.  One of the most recent releases to this end was an update to how we store a lot of our data in our various caching systems.  I am going to focus this post on the introduction of a new technology to our caching layers: CDB (Constant Database). MySQL Virtual Directories for Pure-FTPd

Here at Wayfair, we have thousands of suppliers we work with in order to provide our products to our customers. To automate the bulk of these interactions, we use Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), so that we can trade documents back and forth. FTP is still one of the predominant methods for transferring these documents, so we have had to build a robust FTP solution to handle this traffic.
